YOUNGSTERS in a city amateur dramatic society have come to the aid of blind, partially sighted and special needs children by raising £700 during their annual summer show.

Members of Worcester Operatic and Dramatic Society's Youth Section collected the cash by holding raffles during their week-long run of Annie Get Your Gun, staged at the Swan Theatre, Worcester, last month.

The cheque was given to Malvern Hills Group of Riding for the Disabled, which aids youngsters at Manor Park School, Worcester, and also the city's college for the blind.

Amanda Smith, co-ordinator and instructor for the group, accepted the cheque from WODYS chairman, Mr David Humphries.

She said: "We are delighted that WODYS made Riding for the Disabled its charity this year. We are now able to buy some badly needed equipment for the children and the money left over will ensure that they are able to continue riding."
