VOLUNTEERS had a taste of life on the streets when they took part in sponsored 12-hour sleep-out for charity.

A total of eight volunteers braved Saturday night's cold temperatures to raise money for Maggs, a Worcester-based day centre for the homeless.

"We were raising money to buy furniture for three sponsored-living flats which provide a bridge between homelessness and permanent accommodation," said Mel Kirk, the charity's volunteer

co-ordinator.

"We raised a total of £111 on the night which is great, because we now have a total of £761.

"It was a very cold night but at least it didn't rain," she said.

Miss Kirk said the charity, based in Deansway, is currently looking for volunteers to help out at the centre.
