A WORCESTER surveyor is training hard for a 25 mile trek across the Andes mountains, in Peru, to raise money for disabled children.

John Nunney, of Warndon Villages, is a surveyor with house builders Chase Homes, based in Henley-in-Arden, Warwickshire.

He has volunteered for a 10-day hike and has set himself a fund-raising target of £10,000.

So far, companies who do work for Chase Homes - sub-contractors and suppliers - have already donated almost £7,000 to Mr Nunney's fund-raising coffers.

All money raised will go to a charity called Whizz Kidz, which supplies mobility aids for disabled children.

Mr Nunney has been in training for several months, walking long stretches in Warndon Villages and on the Malvern Hills with heavy weights on his back to prepare himself for the Andean experience at 13,000ft.

"I was really keen to raise money for such a deserving cause," said Mr Nunney, who has a three-year-old daughter, Emily.

"And Rod Ackrill, our chairman, has always been supportive, being among the first to give me a £500 donation."

Mr Nunney's trip, which includes a visit to the lost city of Machu Picchu, is due to begin on Thursday, October 16, when he will meet up with the rest of the team of 25 walkers.
