COLWALL made it six league wins in succession with this 86 run victory over league pace setters Winget, thus keeping their promotion challenge alive.

COLWALL v WINGET

Winget were missing several key players including the experienced Paul Carter, so often Colwall's nemesis in the past.

Tom Wolfendale lost the toss and was surprisingly asked to bat. Wolfendale and the ebullient David Powell once again gave Colwall a solid start. Wolfendale looked in prime form but nicked to the keeper having made a rapid 30.

Josh Hornyold came and went in a flash but Jordan Kontarines, recently returned from international duty with Greece seized the initiative. Powell fell into an introspective phase and became becalmed in the middle of the innings.

Kontarines was soon driving fluently and his half century was chanceless. Eventually he fell after trying one expansive drive too many.

The in-form Tim Riley then joined Powell and Powell was able to escape from the shackles of the first 40 overs and, in hitting Sterling for six over square leg, began an assault which resulted in 90 runs being scored in the last 10 overs. Powell finished undefeated on 108 for his second century in three innings.

It was clear that Winget needed the Tegg brothers to build a big partnership. Though they looked in good form Colwall's openers, Andrew Sutton and Damien Berry had other ideas.

Each produced the perfect ball to dismiss the Teggs and the result was soon in no doubt. David Sutton claimed five wickets without being at his best and Berry bowled unchanged for 14 overs.

An unlikely last wicket partnership frustrated the Stowe-laners until Andrew Sutton was recalled who took just two balls to end the game.

Colwall's final league game is at Devizes tomorrow (Saturday).
