Knighton-on-Teme 179-9

Brintons 180-2

KNIGHTON brought the curtain down on their Worcestershire County League Division Five programme with a hefty eight-wicket defeat at home to lowly Brintons. They were due to finish this week but their fixture with local rivals Teme Valley will not take place as The Valley have withdrawn from the league.

Knighton made a poor start, losing their first three wickets for 28 runs. Opener Mark Evans (45) was then joined by Matthew James and the pair took the score to 95 before the former perished.

James (44) was fifth man out at 138 and the innings stuttered onto 179-9 at the end of their scheduled overs with John Humphries (23) being the only double figure contributor. Leo Waldron (3-41) had the best figures for Brintons.

The Knighton bowlers made little impression on the Brintons batting, especially opener Alan Jones who carried his bat for 53. Andy Lockwood (63) and Adam Maiden (32 no) saw their side home with 2.3 overs to spare. Evans and Bob Gittens both took a wicket for Knighton.

Knighton are currently in fourth spot in the table but could slip down by as much as three places depending on this weeks results.
