BLISTERING heat and humidity marked Ludlow Runners' second annual Tenbury 10K, creating very difficult conditions for the field of 122 runners.

In the circumstances the winning time of 36.43 by Telford A C's Henry Thomas was an excellent performance.... He narrowly beat Kevin Burke of Stourbridge in a thrilling sprint to the line on the playing fields behind Tenbury swimming pool.

First lady was Alison Noake (Wrekin Road Runners) in 42.35, with Ludlow's Justine Hewson third in 43.12.

Other Ludlow results: Viv Tolley 10th (30.25); Dave George 17th (42.22); Mark Wadsworth 22nd (42.54); Graham Wood 27th (43.54); Robert Monteith 28th (43.58); Neil Colins 56th (48.41); Edward Wood 62nd (50.00); Jason Stuchbery 63rd (50.06); Jon Utley 72nd (51.31); Chris Morgan 86th (54.49); Wendy Breakwell 91st (55.26); Ann Cruse 92nd (57.24); Gemma Morgan 98th (59.18); Margaret Braddick 100th (60.38); Lydia Morgan 103rd (63.34) and Sue Evans 104th (63.35).

Ann Cruse took the prize for first LV55+. Margaret Braddick was first 60+, whilst septuagenarian Mary Went also did very well to complete the course.

Tenbury Mayoress, Janice Gluyas, was on hand to give invaluable assistance throughout. Not content with starting the race and officiating at the prize presentation, she also insisted on helping officials to tidy away afterwards.

As for the competitors, after crossing the line many made a beeline from the field to the swimming pool to avail themselves of a cooling plunge and ease their aching limbs.

Hardworking organiser Graham Wood accounted the day a great success. From entrance fees a good contribution was made to Tenbury Round Table towards funding a new bedside radio system at the local hospital.
