FIRST, due to poor forward planning, there was the mountain of scrapped fridges. Next to come, due to a lack of de-tox facilities, will be the scrapped car mountain.
Now a further problem could come with the interpretation by the Department of Trade and Industry classifying printer cartridges as consumables and not waste electrical and electronic equipment which is keeping in line with the European Commission thereby banning the refilling or recycling of computer printer cartridges.
Not only will it destroy the recycling industry and thousands of jobs, forcing the public to pay inflated prices to the printer manufacturers, but worthwhile charities which raised thousands of pound by collecting used printer cartridges for recycling will also lose funding.
