May I congratulate David Barrie, of Nature's Own Limited, Hanley Swan, for his excellent letter (Your Letters, August 22).
He rightly condemns the EU Directive for proposing unnecessarily tight new rules on vitamin supplements. This proposal went through the European Parliament despite vigorous opposition from all UK Conservative MEPs who wanted to preserve freedom of choice.
The problem however has not been "Brussels" but those member state governments - including the UK - who lamely supported the proposals in the first place.
Tony Blair has a lot to answer for.
Philip Bushill-Matthews MEP, European Parliament, Brussels.
