BOOZY schoolchildren, illegally camped on housing association land, are making life miserable for nearby residents with their late night drink-fuelled antics, claim neighbours.

Fed-up folk claim the campsite in Warndon, Worcester, has become a magnet for foul-mouthed drunken youngsters who shout and swear into the early hours.

At one stage, three tents had sprung up on the ground, which falls between Shap Drive and Hawkeshead Close - just yards from their back gardens.

One tent still remains on the Nexus Housing Association land, along with drink cans and household rubbish strewn across the grass.

"It has been a six-week summer nightmare," said one resident, who asked not to be named.

"We can't sleep because of the noise, there's always around 10 to 12 children camped outside, aged around 13 to 16."

Another resident said: "They get drunk and use foul language up until three to four in the morning.

"We don't let the children play here anymore, because of all the mess."

One neighbour has even posted flyers to nearby houses stating, "welcome to Nexus Campsite".

It shows a picture of the offending tent with a sarcastic message, "free camping, free rent, free council tax, don't worry about the rubbish and the noise".

City councillor Mike Layland, who lives nearby, said he had personally not being affected by any noise, but had received a number of complaints about litter and late-night foul language.

"It has been going on for several weeks now. I know the police moved them off the land last week, but they seem to have returned."

A police spokeswoman said: "We make general patrols in this area on a regular basis. We have found no evidence as far as anti-social behaviour is concerned.

"However, we have to balance the needs of local residents with needs of the young people in the area and we will continue to patrol and deal with any offences that we find accordingly."

A spokeswoman for Nexus Housing Association said she did not want to comment at this stage, before investigating the matter further.
