KIDDERMINSTER folk went quackers over the launch of the town's first-ever carnival duck race.
Last Saturday's event saw nearly 600 plastic ducks come under starter's orders from carnival queen Caroline Greenhill with passers-by watching from the riverbank at Tesco's Bridge.
Romping home in first place was duck 524, owned by six-month-old Olivia Roberts, of Endeavour Place, Stourport, who won family tickets for the Severn Valley Railway.
Second place and a £20 Tesco voucher went to Heather Chaloner, of York Court, Kidderminster, while Andrea Hingley, of Leswell Street, Kidderminster, took third and was awarded a £10 McDonald's voucher.
Carnival committee members spent the day selling the ducks at £1 each and the big race raised £600 for this year's charity Kemp Hospice.
