YOUNG people involved with a Stourport church have met their German counterparts in the latest cultural exchange.

Some 13 visitors, aged between 14 and 23, from Barby in the former East Germany made the trip to Wyre Forest to find out more about the area and its people.

St Michael's Church in Stourport welcomed the party, who stayed with foster families in the town and also spent time with a county Scout group where they enjoyed abseiling, canoeing and swimming.

"They had a wonderful time," said church spokesman Peter Dillistone. "They made some very good relationships here and our young people are now looking forward to going to Barby next year."

The German group made a 10-minute mime presentation at St Michael's Church during their stay last month - which was partly funded by more than £1,000 raised by the church through events including a car wash, barbecue and musical evening.

This was the seventh youth exchange involving the two towns after the link between the dioceses of Worcester and Magdeburg was established following German reunification to promote mutual understanding.
