HUNDREDS of green-fingered growers went flower crazy over the weekend as the Vale hosted two great shows.
All roads to Great Comberton were congested last Saturday as visitors made their way to the 57th show, and with superb weather it is likely that all records of the have been broken.
"The marquee was its usual picture of the very best of exhibits," said show chairman Mike Newson. "These included flowers, fruit and vegetables, cookery and preserves, arts and craft, home-made wines and the exhibits of children. In all, there were well over 600 exhibits, a large increase on last year."
The dog show attracted entries from a wide area and was the most successful show to date.
Attractions included an exhibition of line dancing, tug-of-war, fair ground organ, Punch and Judy and a very busy children's area, alongside all the normal stalls and home-made teas.
Ninety-year-old gardeners Bernard and Jessie Wells showed experience counts when they took three major awards at Dumbleton and District 25th annual show.
"It was the most successful show for many years," said show secretary Elizabeth Head of last Saturday's event.
Entries were up by about 100 to 390, the most for several years and at 120 the vegetable entries were double those of last year.
Mrs Head said: "The overall standard throughout the show was excellent."
