I WAS encouraged to see that other people are as concerned as I am with illegal parking in Bewdley and, in fact, throughout the Wyre Forest area. (View on the Street, August 21).

The two traffic wardens that patrol the streets of Wyre Forest also patrol Hagley, Bromsgrove and Redditch and, as they do not work at weekends - when they are most needed in a tourist town - it is no wonder they are seldom seen.

Traffic wardens do an invaluable job in keeping traffic flowing and our streets free of selfish, inconsiderate people who park on double yellow lines, in bus bays and disabled spaces.

Bewdley Town Council are campaigning for Wyre Forest District Council to take on the duties of the traffic wardens. Any fines would go to the district council and this money could be used to improve our car parks or even help to fund a new project such as 24-hour monitored CCTV cameras for the whole district.

I will ask the chairman of Bewdley Town Centre Management Forum to call a meeting to discuss this matter and to support the efforts being made by the Stourport Forum to introduce this scheme.

With regards to the illegal parking in bus bays as reported in the Shuttle/Times and News, I intend to ask the town council to consider recommending that the times of no-waiting be extended to much later in the evening to allow bus passengers to get on and off buses safely.

I am in constant touch with our police beat manager PC Nigel Barter and I know he is doing his best to overcome these problems but, as we have previously been informed, it is a matter of priorities.
