FLOWER SHOW: Ebrington and District Gardening Club's annual flower and vegetable show on Saturday was once again organised by Lucy Dunphey assisted by the committee and
members of the club.
There were many excellent displays in all categories,
with a total of 435 entries overall.
Mai Dorrington won the Sarah Grant Memorial Rose
Bowl for the lady gaining most points in the show; Mai also won the Challenge Shield for the most points gained in the show and the Miriam Collins Flower Cup.
Peter Righton won the RHS Banksian medal for the
most points in the flower and fruit classes; Mai Dorrington won the Drinkwater Cup for the floral art class "A Summer Country Garden"; Douglas Drinkwater won the National Vegetable Society Medal for the best single vegetable exhibit with his excellent cauliflower; Peter Righton won the prize for the most points in the vegetable classes; Roger Righton won the
prize for the most points in the root vegetable classes; Douglas Drinkwater won the prize for the most points in vegetable classes 7-19, Eric Williams won the prize for the most points in the salad classes and for the best
exhibit in the fruit classes; Peter Righton won the prize for the best exhibit in the Dahlia Classes; Sarah Moody won the prize for the Best
Exhibit in the Rose Classes; Mai Dorrington won the Cherry Trees Floral Art Cup for the most points in the floral art classes; Sarah Moody won the Darby Cookery Cup and won the prize for the best lemon drizzle cake; Roger
Righton won the tankard for the most points in the wine classes and won the David Goodenough Cup for the best bottle of wine in the show; Sarah Moody won the Ebrington Arms Photography Salver for the most points in the
photography classes; Sarah Moody won the Craftwork Cup; Tessa Dessain won the Craft Prize for the best exhibit in the craft classes; Ben Hunt won the Paddington Bear Cup for the best exhibit in the children's classes; Kate
Frost won the RHS Junior Competitor's Award of Merit for the best horticultural exhibit; Matthew Young came first and Ben Hunt came second in the children's under-five classes; Edward Hunt came first and Rose Beeston came second in the children's 5-8 years classes; Abbey Young and Kate Frost came joint first and Tom Frost came second in the 9-12 years
Classes.

The next meeting of the garden club is on September 9, when Derek Leary, plantsman and photographer, will be giving a talk on Gardens of the Yellow Book, at 7.30 pm in the village hall.
