AN intrepid couple have survived a two-wheeled trip the length of Britain for the Kemp Hospice appeal - and even enjoyed it.

Sonia and Mark Hyrons, of James Road, Kidderminster, completed the 950-mile route from Land's End to John O'Groats in just 12 days.

Despite torrential rain and "unbelievably" steep Peak District terrain, the pair averaged 80 miles-a-day and think they will raise £1,500 for the hospice appeal and the Grange rehabilitation centre where Mrs Hyrons works.

"I enjoyed it, which I was quite surprised by because it was Mark's idea," said care assistant Mrs Hyrons, 36.

"It was hot in Cornwall but once we got to the Pennines it was dull and overcast. For a couple of days we got pretty drenched and we were pouring water out of our shoes."

She added: "Through the Peak District it was so hilly I thought I'm not going to finish this. It took three hours to do two-and-a-half miles. But from then on it got better and we got over aching muscles."

The sponsorship money was raised through the couple's business contacts, family and friends.
