A CHARITY golf day has swung into action and raised more than double the anticipated amount for Kemp Hospice's building appeal.

The event, held last month at Kidderminster Golf Club and organised by members of Hartlebury's Torton Turds football club, resulted in almost £3,500 swelling the coffers of the £2.2 million appeal.

Members had hoped to donate about £1,500 to the Kidderminster centre. Cash came from entry fees, hole sponsorship and a raffle.

"We had 30 teams and about 120 golfers," said one of the organisers Carol Jordan.

"It went really, really well. The weather was fabulous and we couldn't believe how much money we made."

The club is planning several more events in the next 12 months to boost the campaign, including a summer ball and a raft trip.
