AN A-grade GCSE student found dead at her Worcestershire home the day after celebrating her results died from a suspected drugs overdose, it has emerged

Police said 16-year-old Sally Leeder's death is not thought to be related to her exam results, but that she was unable to come to terms with the death of her boyfriend in a road accident.

The teenager's body was discovered by a neighbour at her home in Bromsgrove on Friday, August 22.

The day before, she had achieved nine GCSEs, four of them at A-grade.

Although the cause of death has not been confirmed, it is understood she took an overdose of painkillers.

Her mother, who was on holiday at the time, returned home as soon as she learnt of the tragedy.

"At this stage in the investigation it has been indicated that Sally was unable to come to terms with the recent death of her boyfriend who died in a road traffic collision," a West Mercia Police spokesman said in a statement.

"Police can confirm that Sally had received her exam results and, at this stage in the investigation, there is no evidence that the death of Sally is related to these results."

Sally, who had two brothers and an elder sister, attended Hagley RC High School, whose headmaster, Ted Hammond, described her as "a lovely and delightful pupil."

"She worked very hard and got some fantastic results," Mr Hammond said.

"Sally had said that she was going to college to do a travel and tourism course and I personally think she would have done very well indeed.

"Our thoughts and sympathies go to her family and friends at such a sad time."

An inquest into Sally's death was due to be opened and adjourned today at Worcestershire Coroners Court, Stourport-on-Severn.
