MARK Bennett and Mark Edwards were major contributors as Bewdley defeated Astwood Bank by three wickets in Saturday's important top-of-the-table clash.

Chasing 197 runs for victory, Bewdley subsided to 88-6 and then 131-7.

But a winning stand of 71 between Bennett (64 not out) and Edwards saw them home.

Earlier, the duo bowled effectively with good support from Robert Combes and Mike Harris, ensuring Bewdley bowled out the opposition again.

Astwood Bank 196, Bewdley 202-7.

Dean Wilkes' 6-23 destroyed Astwood Bank as Bewdley seconds won by nine wickets.

Andy Hartley (3-26) and Scott Fowler also bowled well before the town reached the target comfortably with nearly 40 overs to spare.

David Jones (49) and Andy Robinson shared another fruitful opening stand but the rest of Bewdley's strong batting line-up was untested.

Despite David Mills' excellent 82 not out, Bewdley Cavaliers were narrowly beaten by Harborne on Saturday.

Mills was supported by Steve Brown (61) and Adam Stobbart.

Bewdley bowled well but Harborne's mixture of youth and experience saw them to victory.
