recycling boxes being delivered to households across Wyre Forest are to be supplied with lids following public pressure.

The district council had intended supplying them on request but will now deliver lids with the boxes designed to take newspaper, cans, glass, certain plastics and fabrics.

Commercial services portfolio holder Councillor Keith Robertson said: "It was always our intention to supply lids on request anyway but, in light of the feedback and comments that we have received, we have decided to deliver lids with the boxes."

About 9,000 households are included in phase one and will receive a weekly recycling collection and fortnightly refuse collection from Monday September 8.

Another 10,000 properties will be included from November and a further 20,000 households will be incorporated early next year.

Councillor Robertson added: "We have been running roadshows around the district and have had an overwhelmingly positive response.

"The vast majority of Wyre Forest residents are firmly in favour of the recycling scheme and we are very optimistic it will be a success."
