THREE members of the same family have been locked up after breaking into a neighbour's home and meting out violence in a misguided revenge attack.

Mayhem was caused when Linda Doughty wrongly believed that three women had broken the glass in her front door.

The damage had been done by her own son Brett but he lied about the culprits, said Pardeep Tiwana, prosecuting at Worcester Crown Court.

Linda Doughty, sons Brett and Lee and two other men went round to the neighbour's house in Frankton Close, Redditch.

They began smashing the windows before breaking in. Linda Doughty, aged 44, of Brinklow Close, Redditch, kicked one victim in the body and head after Brett Doughty punched her, said Mr Tiwana.

Lee Doughty, 19, punched pregnant Jessica Foster in the face and knocked her into a bath.

Judge Andrew Geddes told the trio it was a terrifying, disgraceful incident borne out of revenge.

He jailed Linda Doughty for nine months and gave her two sons nine months youth detention each. They all admitted affray.

The trouble began on June 7 last year after Brett Doughty, who had been drinking lager while watching England play in the World Cup on TV, went round to the women's home.

He became abusive and was slapped and punched by Miss Hannah Lewis, whom he then struck in the face with a can of lager, said Mr Tiwana.

The women called at his home to complain about his behaviour but he came to the door armed with a kitchen knife and an extendable baton.

As he extended it, the baton struck his own front door smashing the glass. But he lied to his parents that the women were responsible for the damage and the incident escalated to the break-in.

Richard Bond, for the mother, said she was protective towards her family and had over-reacted to what her son told her.

Lee Marklew, for Brett Doughty, said he accepted he had to pay a sorry price for consuming too much alcohol.

Steven Bailey, for Lee Doughty, said he was usually a calm, law-abiding youth, but out of immaturity and stupidity had not stopped to think.
