ALCESTER & Ragley played against Ashton-under-Hill on Saturday in a game full of meaning for both sides; Alcester needed a win to stay in promotion contention and Ashton needed a win to avoid relegation.

Alcester took first innings started well with an opening stand of 79, with Nick Chadbourne 51 backed up by Quirke's vintage 118 and Matt Greenway's 34 in just 10 overs. Alcester totalled 247-7 off 45 overs.

In reply Ashton started cautiously with 60 for the first wicket until Stuart Prince gained 2-30 off 10 overs. Ashton kept going but needed 130 with 15 overs left with six wickets in hand. Bowler Mark Woolley then claimed three wickets and Matt Greenway struck twice in his first over.

Woolley then claimed the final wicket to give Alcester the vital win by 41 runs and relegate Ashton. Further good news came that second-placed Earlswood had lost, pushing Alcester back up into the promotion places with just one game remaining.
