Worcester's Simon Jones and Mark Atkins swept aside the challenge of York's Mal and Mark Harrison to reach the semi-finals of the National Express Men's All England Bowls Pairs at Worthing last night.
Jones and Atkins sped out of the blocks into an 8-0 lead in their quarter-final clash and, after conceding a treble, Jones and Atkins added seven shots in three ends to stretch their advantage to 15-3.
Back came the Harrisons by scoring a single, a four and a treble over the next four ends, to reduce the gap to 15-11.
But a double on the next end enabled Jones and Atkins to lead 17-11 with seven ends to play.
The Worcester pair were still in front at 17-14 and they added a double and single to increase their superiority to 20-14 with two ends to go.
The Harrisons summoned up a fighting finish, notching two singles but Jones and Atkins stayed firmly in command to win 20-16.
Earlier Jones and Atkins demolished Tom Griffiths and Martin Wilks from Frampton-on-Severn, 22-8 in a last 16 clash.
In today's semi-finals Jones and Atkins meet Romford's John James and Steve Mitchinson, while England International John Rednall and Clive Webb from Felixstowe and Suffolk take on Simon Leader and Nicky Brett from White Hart, Huntingdonshire.
