IN response to your leader item (Evening News, August 13) your paper said 10 years ago that the Northwick Theatre was then one of Worcester's 10 official eyesores.
The Blackfriars multi-storey car park, which has since been replaced by the CrownGate car park, was another. This leaves nine eyesores to go.
I am in complete agreement with the Mayor's comments to pull down the Northwick, complete with its awful corrugated asbestos roof.
Indeed, it is unlikely that a cinema could make a profit and a nightspot has in the past caused all sorts of problems to this densely populated area.
In my view, there is no other option than to demolish the building in favour of suitable accommodation noting the close proximity to the shopping facilities and so on.
With regard to the art deco, it is unlikely the public will get to see it, although with today's technology, I would have thought it could be removed in one piece and erected where it could be appreciated by art lovers.
I sincerely hope common sense will prevail.
R J COOK,
Worcester.
