BEWDLEY completed a five-wicket Worcestershire League Division Two win over Romsley and Hunnington with 12 overs to spare.

Taking 24 points to Romsley's four, Mark Edwards (5-56) was the visitors' bowling hero as he completed another five-wicket haul.

R Beaumont scored a brisk 58 as the home side opted to bat first but then Edwards took control.

Mark Bennett collected two wickets, while Mark Hudson and Robert Combes were also successful.

With 54 overs to score 173 runs, Bewdley began quietly with Bennett falling for 11 in the 15th over and Paul Beard dismissed first ball.

The score really began to move when Simon Smith (59 not out) came to the crease.

Opener Combes was dismissed for 33 and Paul Edwards added 24 before Gareth Lewis (11 not out) joined Smith to see Bewdley safely to victory.

Romsley 172, Bewdley 173-5.

Scott Fowler completed his destruction of Romsley and Hunnington with personal best figures of 9-80 for Bewdley seconds.

The 10th wicket was a run-out late in the innings and Fowler's figures would have been even better if five catches had not been dropped.

The Romsley innings began well but only lusty blows by J Lennen set much of a target.

David Jones (88 not out) and Pete Mauger (69 not out) knocked the runs off, giving them 24 points.
