ANDY Keast has hinted that Worcester may be a touch more pragmatic this season.

The Sixways club - dubbed the entertainers for their avalanche of tries last year - may change the game plan slightly as they go for the National One crown.

"It will be a very different season for Worcester," said the coach. "Whatever anyone says, we were always chasing Rotherham last year. Seemingly always playing catch-up.

"We won't have that this season and we won't have to chase. There is no difference between scoring four tries or 11 with the amount of points on offer.

"What we might do is once we've got the points on the board, we may kick for goal.

"If we are continuing to play at such speed and into contact then we are risking injury when the game is already won. We've got two fly halves who are extremely accurate goal kickers so we may well utilise that.

"We won't be changing our style, though, we will still be playing a running game."

Meanwhile, Keast has backed Matt Powell to step into Werner Swanepoel's shoes if the skipper fails to recover from his Achilles injury in time for the opening league clash at Otley on September 6.

"Matt has looked electric in training," said Keast. "He's a very, very good trainer and he has really impressed me, particularly his passing. He's really enjoying the way we play."
