A MULTI-million pound riverside redevelopment could be the jewel in the crown of a Worcester renaissance.

New plans, due to be unveiled next week, would transform the Croft Road lorry park into a waterside garden and create a wetland wildlife area north of Pitchcroft.

They are some of the ideas to give a "fresh look" to Worcester's parks.

The ambitious project also includes a footbridge over Barbourne Brook, linking Gheluvelt Park with the west of the city, and building an amphitheatre for summer events in Cripplegate Park.

And the riverside regeneration comes hot on the heels of plans to revitalise Worcester's Lowesmoor Trading Estate, Diglis Basin, High Street and Cathedral roundabout.

The plans have taken around four years to finalise and suggestions from a week-long public consultation, in March, have heavily influenced the scheme.

"We had a terrific response from the public," said Alan Stuttard, the city council's head of cultural services.
