ON Sunday Malvern had a friendly fixture at Gloucester City CC, and under the guidance of stand-in skipper Ray Evans, came away with a 105 run victory.
GLOUCESTER CITY CC v MALVERN CC
Gloucester won the toss and put Malvern into bat. Opener Arnold set the tone by charging the first ball and hitting it over the bowler's head for four. However, Arnold's innings did not last much longer as he was bowled by 14-year-old Smith for 18. Mitchell followed Arnold next ball.
This brought Jenkins to the crease and he, along with opener Andy Cullen added 72 before Jenkins was bowled for 23.
Carter and Cullen (76) then added 69 before Cullen was dismissed. Malvern then lost Carter and Poole quickly before adding 100 runs in the last ten overs thanks to powerful knocks from Francis and A Dovey who hit impressive boundaries. Dovey ended on 32no, continuing his run of form. Malvern finished on 260.
In reply, Gloucester found it hard going due to tight opening spells from the young J Dovey and veteran Evans. Gloucester lost wickets at regular intervals with the only real contribution from their skipper with 42.
The pick of the Malvern bowlers were youngsters J Dovey (2-19) and T Poole (3-23).
