IN a high scoring WCL game at Stourport, Malvern came away with a losing draw by 23 runs, which was probably a fair result.

TOURPORT II v MALVERN II

Batting first on an excellent track, Stourport's openers put on a partnership of 110. Having not won a game this year, Stourport drafted in some different players from normal and they did the business.

Davis scored a century and he was backed up by Colley (41). Malvern's bowlers toiled in the heat and when the ball went in the air it normally fell in a gap, apart from two dropped catches.

The other main batsman in Stourport's total of 271 was Preece, who looked classy for his 47 not out.

Malvern's most successful bowler was Besgrove, taking 5-63.

Malvern's reply by Dave Cox and Walwyn produced another 50 partnership keeping up with the required run rate. In fact this run rate was to be matched right up to the 41st over. Cox made the most of the true track and showed excellent timing. Walwyn was once again bowled attempting the cut and a mini collapse followed.

Goddard for Stourport bowled particularly well and picked up three wickets. Unfortunately, Cox was run out for an excellent 78, while going for a quick single.

Besgrove continued the momentum for Malvern but was caught on 54 with the score at 214, needing another 57 off eight overs.

Jonny Dovey did an excellent job (20), surprising Stourport with his timing and placement.

At one point, the victory would have been possible, but Sumner and Mudway played out for a draw at 250-9.

This was an exciting game played in good spirit on a great track.
