DIVISION One leaders Brockhampton finally made light work of defeating Nomads on Saturday in the Worcestershire County League.

WORCESTER NOMADS v BROCKHAMPTON

Brockhampton have only lost one game so far this season, at home to Nomads, and batting first the visitors were once again in some trouble losing early wickets. It was only when club pro Malik came to the crease and launched an attack with good support from A Watkins (66) and J Cook (40no), that the total began be in excess of 200.

The home bowling was unable to contain the all-rounder, and when he finished on 103, the final total of 261 looked to be some challenge considering the success Brock-hampton have had with the ball.

That proved to be the case as Malik and the experienced Wargen proved more than a handful. Jones top scored with 19 as the home side were blown away for only 93 and defeat by 168 runs.

Malik and Wargen took four wickets each and on this form it seems unlikely anyone will be capable of preventing Brockhamp-ton from lifting the title.

Nomads now need to get back into the chase for the promotion places when they play Bewdley tomorrow (Saturday).

BROCKHAMPTON II v WORCESTER NOMADS II

THE Worcester Nomads Second XI enjoyed a WCL game of fluctuating fortunes in rural Herefordshire.

Inviting Brockhampton to bat first on an apparently damp track, Nomads were disappointed not to get much reaction from the pitch.

Brockhampton's opener Jennings made good use of his opportunity, having been put down on just eight, as he made his way to 112, before falling to Harris. Nomads were staring at a target of somewhere around the 300 mark, when Brockhampton had made 157-3 in their first 30 overs, but Miles Illingworth and John Goodreds clawed Nomads back into the game with tight, accurate bowling.

Nomads dismissed Brockhampton in the final over for 245, having tied them to 89-7 in the last 20 overs.

Dave Finbow fell early on, but Nathan Newport again looked comfortable before offering an inside edge to the keeper on 35. The run rate was heading rapidly for 10 per over from the last 14 overs with Nomads struggling on 126 when Nick Williams and Dominic Harris came together at the fall of the sixth wicket.

The two Nomads batsmen launched a savage attack, in a partnership worth 84. They were split when Harris straight-drove a chest high chance back to Jennings, and the ball was diverted onto the stumps with Williams out of his ground. Harris looked in great form and hit a straight six and a superb extra-cover drive dissecting two fielders barely 15 feet apart on the boundary. In partnership with Illingworth the two youngsters saw Nomads home with a three overs to spare by three wickets.
