THE Madresfield show of 1953 attracted a record crowd of 15,000, reported the Gazette.
The show was returning after a year's break caused by a foot-and-mouth outbreak. However, the '53 show was itself affected by disease, as an epidemic of swine fever meant the cancellation of the pig classes.
The show was nonetheless a great success, and the sun shone all day.
