FAITHFUL staff of a Malvern hotelier reaped their reward, reported the Malvern Gazette 50 years ago.
The late Mr Walter Laurende Hanson left the Essington Hotel in Malvern Wells, "together with furniture, effects and goodwill" to four staff members.
They were housekeeper Julia Jones, head waitress Annie Young, junior waitress May Evans and general helper Arthur Herbert.
The four, said the paper, had helped to make the hotel into one of the most popular in the district.
"The terms of the will had come as a great surprise to them all, as they had not expected to benefit," said the report.
It also said the hotel was thought to be the first house to be built in the Wells and was originally the home of Admiral Essington.
However, it did not say who the Admiral was.
Malvern Memories would like to hear from anyone who knows more about the Admiral and his connection with Malvern.
