THE MALPO Invitation Domino League is in danger of winding up as it approaches its 30th anniversary.

At its height, the league ran separate summer and winter leagues but now, with only six teams competing in the winter, the competition could come to an end.

League secretary Terry Fisher said: "Without further teams coming into the league, we may have to wind things up."

The league started in the mid-70s and has given lots of enjoyment to 100s of Malvern and Powick people. That is where the league name of MALPO originated but it soon attracted pubs and clubs from Worcester, Callow End, Madresfield, West Malvern and the Wells.

Mr Fisher continued: "As with most other pub sports, team events seem to have diminished over the past ten years, with the result that the camaraderie between people at these evening events is fast disappearing."

Any team that may be interested in joining the league for the winter season can attend the league's AGM, to be held at the Madresfield Club on Thursday, August 21 at 8.30pm or contact the league secretary Terry Fisher on (01905) 830559.
