BARNARDS Green visited Dominies & Guild in a must win match at Worcester on Saturday in Division Three of the Worcestershire County League.

DOMINIES & GUILD v BARNARDS GREEN

On a sweltering day Tim Williams lost the toss and the Green were asked to bat. The Green got off to a shaky start when Doughty was caught in the gully early on. Jez Clarke and Dan Flynn were beginning to push the accelerator when disaster struck. Prolific scorer Flynn was run out attempting a quick single to leave the Green on 43-2.

Chris Smedley looked in commanding form as he and Clarke took the score past the 100 mark. Paul Drinkwater looked in excellent form, despite a hand injury picked up prior to the game, but fell victim to a suicidal run out. Tim Clarke and Chris Hill both fell attempting to increase the scoring rate.

Tim Williams joined Clarke and the pair took the score past 200 before Clarke fell for an excellent innings of 86. Sixteen runs from the last over left the Green on a below par, but competitive score of 222-7.

The Dominies reply started badly when Tim Williams bowled the experienced Wilks for 10. However, youngster Wilkinson and the more experienced Price batted very stubbornly and played some nice shots to take the score on to 45 before Wilkinson was stumped by the sharp Glendinning of Tim Clarke.

Doughty then ended Price's resistance and added Williams caught by Curtis soon after. U14 player Matt Brace played some superb shots in his 33 before he fell victim to Flynn's flatter ball. Doughty then added Oliver caught by Flynn and Flynn clean bowled Hopkins to leave the Green in sight of a fine victory.

With three wickets still to get and youngsters Lewis and Ford showing good resistance the Green looked for a hero and up popped Clive Churchill. When Lewis tried to take a quick single to mid off Churchill swooped in and threw down the stumps at the keeper's end to run Ford out. Then in an extremely fast spell Churchill first had Hill caught well by Doughty, running back from slip, when he top edged an attempted hook shot. Then with only four balls to go he yorked captain Wilks to give the Green an excellent victory and 24 points.

Third-placed Green will be looking to keep their winning run going tomorrow (Saturday) when they entertain Enville at North End Lane.
