T W Fisher's sighting of the hummingbird hawk moth was replicated in Mathon on the evening of July 13.
I heard a distinctive humming in the back garden and, for a minute, thought it was a very late May bug, but then I saw the moth hovering and feeding on some honeysuckle.
The cat was starting to take an interest so I 'shoo'd' her away and stood back to watch it's distinctive flight. I'd heard the 'hum' a couple of times in the previous week but had not spotted its owner, a most welcome visitor to our garden.
