Thanks to T W Fisher (Your Letters, July 25), the creature I tried to describe to my wife now has a name. Early last week, I spotted it hovering over a flower on buddleia davidii "Peace" in our garden. The hummingbird hawk moth was indeed a sight never to be forgotten and I, too, feel privileged to have seen one at close quarters.
Armed with a name, we have been able to look up more detail concerning this hawk moth. The hot weather seems to have brought it much further north than usual. A sign of global warming perhaps!
