A GAMES team from the Croome Pony Club has reached the Pony Club Championships, to be held in Shropshire later this month.

The senior Croome team won its area competition in April, and worked hard training twice a week, with various weekend competitions to go to the zone finals, which were held near Bristol.

Their performance means they will take part in the championships, which will be held on Tuesday, August 19, at Sansaw Park.

Against 14 other Pony Club teams, in blistering heat and two hours and 10 mounted games later, they were finally placed second overall, just missing a place at the world famous Horse of the Year Show, beaten by the Quantock Pony Club.

The team consisted of Ben Taylor, aged 13, riding Mooney, his sister Kitty, 10, riding Maggie, from Powick; Sam Farmer, 14 riding Nero, from Warndon; Emily Howard, 14, riding Boddington and her sister Sophie, 12, riding Misty, from The Lenches.

The team is trained by Bob and Sue Taylor, who supported the youngsters through rain, wind and sunshine, as training started in January.
