BEWDLEY bounced back to winning form against struggling Oldswinford with a four-wicket victory in Worcestershire League Division Two.

They bowled and fielded well after winning the toss against the bottom club, Mark Edwards taking 5-40 with good support from acting captain Simon Mauger and Jason Taylor.

Wicket-keeper Charlie Combes was hit in the eye and had to leave the field but his replacement Richie Harris took a catch.

Chasing 142 runs, Bewdley lost their first four wickets for just 17 but Paul Edwards batted briskly.

When Edwards was out with the score on 55, Craig Allen hit 46 and Mauger 44 not out to add 89 in 14 overs and set the town up for victory.

Oldswinford 141, Bewdley 144-6.

Bewdley seconds were frustrated by dogged batting from Oldswinford and had to settle for a winning draw.

David Jones (102) continued his good form with the bat, sharing in an opening partnership of 187 with Andrew Robinson (88) as the team totalled 279-4.

Oldswinford held on for a draw, though spinners Aidan Laverty (4-34) and Andy James did their best to bowl them out.

Bewdley 2nds 279-4, Oldswinford 164-8.

In the Third Teams Double League, Bewdley Cavaliers gained a superb eight-wicket victory at Stourbridge.

There were fine bowling spells from Simon Higgs and Andrew Stannard with the experienced Mark Hudson and John Peer doing well at the end to dismiss Stourbridge for 171.

Dave Cowdery gave the batting a confident start before a 120 stand between Steve Brown (60) and Peer (64 not out) sealed the game.

Stourbridge 171, Cavaliers 172-2.

Bewdley drew a friendly with Tividale on Sunday, despite collapsing to 10-3 when batting.

David Mills and Gareth Lewis rescued the innings, while Peter Mauger (64) and Mark Venross (69) raised the score.

In reply, Tividale started impressively but Simon Higgs claimed the vital wicket of D Stibbon and Andy James (3-50) bowled skillfully.
