BRITAIN'S largest open-air folk and rock festival gets underway near Banbury this evening.

The big names coming to Cropredy Festival this weekend include Procol Harum, Fairport Convention and the voice of Dr Hook, Dennis Locorriere.

The festival is celebrating its twenty-fifth anniversary this year and more than 23,000 people are expected to descend on the tiny Oxfordshire village.

It is estimated that 80,000 pints of beer will be drunk and 7,000 tents erected during the three-day festival.

Tickets are available on the gate at £32 for one day and £50 for two days. Children under 12 are admitted free.

The event is organised by Dave Pegg, the bass player with Fairport Convention, and his wife Christine.
