EVESHAM sculler Andrew Walker travels to Athens this week as the two man in the Great Britain coxless quad scull at the Junior World Rowing Championship.
The event takes place on the new rowing course at Schinias, venue for the Olympic Rowing Championships in Athens next year.
It is the culmination of a momentous year for Andrew, having won at the National Schools Championship, National Rowing Championships, Munich Junior International Regatta and the Fours Head of the River on the Thames. Andrew took the decision last year to move to Henley to train at the Leander Club, home to the cream of British rowing, including the World Champion pair Matthew Pinsent and James Cracknell.
The move has enabled him to maintain his position at the top of the GB junior squad, while studying for A-levels at Henley Sixth Form College.
The crew, who have made considerable advances on their winning form from Munich, face stiff competition from Italy, Australia, Germany and the United States, but are looking forward to a smooth passage to the final on Saturday.
