HUNDREDS of jobs could be in the pipeline for Kidderminster if a massive industrial estate is approved.

London-based developer The Easter Group has applied for detailed planning permission to build the 17 units - totalling 13,802 sq metres - on land between the railway line and the A449 at Hoo Farm.

It is thought the scheme, which will be considered by Wyre Forest District Council's planning (development control) committee as early as next month, would mean up to 500 light and heavy industrial jobs. The greenfield site is earmarked for industrial use under the district's Local Plan and The Easter Group already has outline planning permission for development.

The application follows mixed news on the jobs front last month. More than 60 new positions are to be created at the new De Bradelei Mill department store but 40 carpet workers are being made redundant at Woodward Grosvenor.

Wyre Forest MP Dr Richard Taylor said: "If there is a chance of industrial advances in Wyre Forest we should welcome it wholeheartedly."

He added the plans would add to successes such as the training centre for electro-biomedical engineers established at Kidderminster Hospital a year ago.
