THE well-established Malvern Junior Open Tennis Tournament, in association with the British Tennis Coaches' Association, Malvern Girls' College and South Hereford Garages, was held at Manor Park.

This event is also one of the qualifying tournaments for the Sunday Telegraph/Center Parcs Junior Tennis Grand Prix for 18u boys and girls.

Alice Richardson from Bromsgrove firmly established her position above Redditch player Katherine Fisher, whom she beat in both the 18u and 16u girls' singles, although in the second match Katherine streaked ahead in the early stages and took the first set, though subsequently lost the following two.

The 18u boys' singles was won by Alistair Cernick from Bedfordshire who beat Derby player Graeme Johnston, but in the 21u boys singles Graeme reversed the result and beat Alistair in another close three-set match.

Local county players were well to the fore in the final rounds with Pershore player Rob Lowe winning both the 16u and 14u Titles. Harrison Probert from Hereford beat William Unwin to take the boys' 12u singles title and Manor Park player Jamie Marks was runner-up in the 10u boys' singles.

In the doubles events Manor Park players Richard Tuck and Ben Marks had a close match with Rob Lowe and Miles O'Meally, but after a set point in the first set, they narrowly lost it 6-7 and then the second 2-6.
