LINDA Carruthers made it a double when she took the Broadway Ladies' Club Championship title for the second year in a row last week.

Carruthers, who was runner-up in the Gloucestershire Ladies' County Championship earlier in the season, proved her class when having shot a gross 73 in the morning, one shot off the course record, she posted a second card of 78 in the atrocious wind and rain that affected play for all participants in the afternoon.

Vicky Watkins, having her mark in her first year at the club, was declared championship runner-up and winner of the salver with a score of 167. Her morning round of gross 76 was five shots below her handicap and a personal best.

The Julia Ward Trophy for the best net score of the day was awarded to Debbie Thornhill, whose cards of net 69 and 76 gave her an outstanding championship total of 145.
