MORE than 100 Seniors golfers from across the Midlands visited Evesham Golf Club to compete for the annual Martin Bird Trophy.
The competition was split into two categories, for 60-69 years of age and those 70 years plus.
The best overall net score of the day, and winner of the trophy was Alec Edwards, a visitor from Gay Hill, who playing off a handicap off 11, returned a net 68, one better than Bill Ballard, a stalwart from the home club.
A visitor from Wharton Park, Bert Morris, recorded 77 the best gross of the day.
T Nottingham won top prize in the lower age category with a net 71.
Other home winners in this category were R Diffin (net 72), G Ricketts (73), R Flack (73) and D Lambert (73).
B Ballard won the upper age group with his net 69. M Cox (71) and P Gilbert (76) were the other two Evesham prize-winners.
Three remaining prizes all went to visitors in this age group, J Tharme (Tadmarton) net 72, P Drake (Redditch) 74, and N Bevan (Tewkesbury Park) 75.
The two prizes for nearest the pin on the ninth hole went to L Gore (Gay Hill) and the nearest by a home player went to senior captain Dr David Wilson.
To round off a successful day, the Seniors presented £162 to the Ambulance Fund.
On the domestic scene Evesham surprisingly lost their home match to Ombersley by 4 - 2.
The two winning pairs for Evesham were P Edmunds/N Hodgetts and M Whiteford/J Bomford. P Gilbert/O Gale recorded a creditable half.
Remaining pairs D Wilson/K Piddington, K Hunt/G Taylor, E Pike/B Chapman and Dr G Burton/P Belcher all lost.
There was a crumb of comfort for David Wilson at the ninth hole of his match where he achieved his first ever hole-in-one.
