VIOLENCE erupted during a football match at Bewdley Leisure Centre, Worcester Crown Court was told.
Paul Hyde, playing for the Waggon and Horses pub team from Wribbenhall, was the victim of a bad tackle.
He turned round and allegedly head-butted tackler Richard Evans from opposing team Swindon Cricket/Football Club during the cup game in February.
Hyde, 42, of Tudor Road, Bewdley, denied assault causing actual bodily harm.
The prosecution offered no evidence after he agreed to be bound over in the sum of £300 for a period of 12 months.
Adam Western, prosecuting, said it was not in the public interest to take the matter further as there was no prospect of a conviction for assault.
Judge David Matthews questioned the need for a trial and the use of police resources, pointing out that Hyde had apologised for his behaviour.
Recording a not guilty verdict, he said it was unfortunate the case had not been resolved at a earlier stage before it reached crown court.
