LES Haines became the highest run scorer in the history of Ashton cricket club on Sunday with his 15 at Gotherington.

Les has been playing for Ashton since 1962 and has now officially scored 12,135 runs (the club is missing some seasons during the 60s and 70s from the records) at an average of 18.25.

Les has hit 45 fifties but never managed 100, with his highest score being 95.

He has now surpassed Richard Keen's previous record of 12,131 runs although club officials are sure that he has many more runs due to missing books (if anyone has any scorebooks or averages contact Ali Keen on 01386 584425).

Les's next challenge is the magical total of 1,000 wickets (he may have already done it), he is now only 52 away and would be only the second person to manage this, after Robbie Hawker
