ROADWORKS between the northern junction of Sedgeberrow and the A44/A46 Cheltenham roundabout are due to be completed by the end of the month to the relief of Evesham's retailers and commuters.
Evesham businessman and town councillor, John Stych said: "The hold ups have been incredible. People coming into my shop have said they have been stuck in traffic jams for up to an hour."
The Highways Agency hopes the construction of a new cyclepath on the southbound carriageway of the A46 will provide smoother and safer journeys for cyclists. The project has taken longer than expected to complete because work was reduced to off-peak hours following complaints by commuters and residents.
Route Sponsor Bob Bilbie said: "We recognise that the work has caused delay to road users and as a result we have amended our timetable, however this does have the knock-on effect of the work taking longer to complete."
Coun Stych who believes the hold-ups have turned away tourists, said: "It's been an awful lot of trouble just for a cycle way. I will be glad when it is all over."
