ATHLETICS: Five members of Amazing Feet Running Club had no worries in the event dubbed the toughest challenge in British athletics.

The Tour of Tameside comprised more than 52 miles in six races over seven days with John Amos starring for the Wyre Forest club.

Amos was 31st overall and fourth in the over-45s category in 5 hours 31 minutes and 52 seconds, just ahead of Eddie Sanders who was 34th and third in the over-50s in 5-32-49.

Gordon Sims was 174th in 6-50-25, Heather Harrison 176th in 6-51-46 and Sam Hatton 205th in 7-34-43 but Rob Edwards had to pull out with an injury after the first race.

Harrison finished 15th woman and Hatton 24th, while the men's team of Amos, Sanders and Sims came in seventh out of 16.

Twelve Amazing Feet members contested the Tenbury 10km over a tough hilly course on a hot day in the 11th inter-club race league event.

Brian Humphries followed up his effort in the Summer Tough Guy event a few weeks earlier with a seventh-place finish.

Amos was 11th and Gerry Sanders finished ahead of David Pye who was 51st.

Simone Buzink completed her first race since joining the club but Craig Lewis suffered a nasty fall in the closing stages and did not finish.

Other positions: Andy Norris 52nd, Harrison 53rd in a personal best, Sims 58th, Paul Hancock 75th, Richard Baker 76th.

Humphries still leads the race league from G Sanders and Harrison has increased her lead for the ladies' title.
