ROWING: More than 500 races will be contested at the weekend's annual crowd-pulling Stourport Regatta.

Stourport Boat Club are hosting the popular event on Saturday and Sunday from 8.30am until 6pm.

Last year's Victor Ludorum trophy winners, Curlew from London, will be represented along with Holland club De Hoop.

The Dutch are returning to form a team with Upton, while the Tees Rowing Club intend to travel down from the north-east.

Crews from Stourport, Bewdley, Evesham, Worcester and Ironbridge will also be vying for the prize pewter tankards.

Preparations have gone well for the event, according to regatta secretary Andy Hough who will row in the veteran eights on Sunday.

Hough said: "Hopefully, we will have the sunshine that we didn't get last year.

"We've again had the support of the community, like the local divers' club and from Stourport Swifts."

There will also be a strong junior entry from the hosts.
