SENIOR CITIZENS ACTION NETWORK: The bi-monthly meeting of Scan (Senior Citizens Action Network) took place at the Methodist Hall on Monday. The main speaker was coun Jean Holder the vice-chairman of the new Stratford Trust. She outlined the historical background and its origins prior to the reformation. Today the Guild and College estates own considerable properties in the town both commercial and residential.
The benefits to the town are considerable giving grants from schools to clubs and societies.
She was thanked by Chris Mitchell, of Stratford District Council. After coffee the new chairman of SCAN was introduced to members, Mrs Elizabeth Cole has replaced coun Peggy Joslin who moved to Leicestershire earlier in the year. Recommendations took place on the Community Plan as it will effect older people in the coming years.
A report on the National Pensioners' Convention recently held in Blackpool was well received.
Two members outlined the objective of getting a better deal for pensioners.
The next meeting will be on October 6.
