A COUPLE has been banned from being company directors after the software company they ran from their Bretforton home failed with debts of £55,000.

Jane Smith, aged 41, and Harold Smith, 38, agreed to the terms laid out by the Insolvency Service following the collapse of Atlantic Information Technology Systems Ltd.

Mr Smith has been banned from playing any part in the promotion, formation or management of a company for three years and Mrs Smith for two-and-a-half years.

The software company, which was run from the Smiths' home on Weston Road, was placed into compulsory liquidation by order of the High Court of Justice on December 5, 2001. The case went to court at the request of the Inland Revenue, which was owed £37,351 in income tax and National Insurance contributions.

It is estimated that the company folded with a total deficiency of £54,497.
